Friday, 18th September 2026, will remain a memorable day for 17 outstanding young students in the Atwima Mponua District, as the Ismat Foundation, in collaboration with the Atwima Mponua District Assembly, stepped forward to support their transition from Junior High School to Senior High School.
The 17 brilliant beneficiaries, who distinguished themselves in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination BECE with aggregates ranging from 6 to 12, received backpacks, textbooks, scientific calculators and toiletries to help them begin their Senior High School journey with confidence and the essential learning materials they need.
The selection of students who obtained aggregates 6–12 was deliberately designed not only to reward academic excellence but also to inspire other young people across the district to work harder, dream bigger and take their education seriously.
Interestingly, 13 of the 17 beneficiaries are girls from Yaw Kusikrom, a remote community in Mponua. Their achievement has brought immense pride to their families and community while also drawing attention to an emerging educational trend that demands serious reflection.
Addressing the gathering, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Issahak Ibrahim, used the occasion to raise concern about the growing educational gap between boys and girls in the district.
He noted that some boys appear to be falling behind their female counterparts because they leave school early to engage in trading and other economic activities in an attempt to make money.
For Hon. Issahak, the issue is not simply about academic performance, it is about the future of the district.
He therefore called for renewed attention and deliberate interventions to ensure that boys are encouraged to remain in school, develop their talents and pursue their educational aspirations rather than sacrificing their long-term future for short-term financial gains.
He challenged all 17 beneficiaries to see the support they had received as a responsibility as much as an opportunity.
They were encouraged to remain disciplined, committed and focused, take their studies seriously and make the most of every opportunity that comes their way.
The DCE further assured the students and their parents that the District Assembly remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote quality education and create an environment in which young people can pursue their dreams.
“As a district, we will develop and implement appropriate measures to address the gender gap in educational progression and ensure that both boys and girls have equal opportunities to excel.” He added
The initiative also served as a powerful reminder that behind every impressive examination result is a network of parents, teachers, communities, institutions and organisations working tirelessly to shape the next generation.
Hon. Issahak Ibrahim therefore commended the Ismat Foundation, the District Assembly, parents, teachers and all stakeholders whose collective efforts continue to promote education and nurture young talents in Atwima Mponua.
