In a district where the scream of sirens and the sight of twisted motorbikes have sadly become almost routine, the Atwima Mponua District Assembly has finally drawn a line in the sand.
On Tuesday, 28th January 2026, the Assembly held a crucial engagement with lottery agents and their collectors, many of whom criss-cross the district daily on motorbikes in pursuit of their livelihood—often at great risk to their lives and the lives of others.
The mission was clear and urgent: stop the weekly accidents before more lives are lost.
During the meeting, agents and riders were educated on the safe handling of motorbikes, responsible riding practices, and the growing concern over road traffic accidents linked to lotto operations. The Assembly also used the opportunity to sensitise operators on the importance of paying their operational fees, stressing that these funds directly support development projects across the district.
In a decisive move, the Assembly resolved to bring in the big guns—the DVLA, MTTU, and relevant insurance companies—to intensify education on road traffic regulations, road safety, licensing, and insurance requirements. The goal is simple but powerful: safer roads, law-abiding operators, and responsible lotto business practices.
This bold intervention is a conscious and strategic effort to drastically reduce the incessant accidents that occur almost every week, many of them involving lotto agents carrying out their routine duties.
